Understand what happened โ and why it matters
A stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted. Within minutes, brain cells begin to be affected. Understanding the type of stroke shapes every decision that follows.
Ischemic Stroke
A clot blocks a blood vessel in the brain. About 87% of strokes are ischemic. Treatment focuses on restoring blood flow quickly.
Hemorrhagic Stroke
A blood vessel ruptures and bleeds into the brain. Treatment focuses on controlling the bleed and reducing pressure.
TIA โ "Mini Stroke"
A temporary blockage that clears on its own. Symptoms resolve within 24 hours, but it's a serious warning sign.
"The doctors kept using words I didn't know. Pathway translated everything into language I could actually hold onto."
โ Margaret T., caregiver, husband's stroke Dec 2025
Healthy Flow
Blood flows freely, delivering oxygen to brain cells
Ischemic Stroke
A clot blocks flow. Cells downstream are deprived of oxygen
Every minute matters
In an ischemic stroke, approximately 1.9 million neurons are lost every minute without treatment. The phrase "time is brain" is not a metaphor.
Practice โ the therapies that rebuild
Recovery happens in sessions โ small, consistent, purposeful. Here's what each therapy type looks like and what to expect week by week.

Physical Therapy
Rebuilding strength, balance, and coordination. Therapists work on walking, transfers, and daily movement.

Occupational Therapy
Relearning everyday tasks โ dressing, cooking, writing. The goal is independence in daily life.

Speech Therapy
Addressing aphasia, swallowing difficulties, and communication. Covers speaking, reading, and writing.

Cognitive Rehab
Rebuilding memory, attention, and problem-solving. Often integrated with other therapies.
